Trial Verdict for $1.5 Million
Steven Goren and Brad Harris obtained a $1.5 verdict for the family of a man who died of an undiagnosed aortic dissection. Defendant was an internal medicine physician who was caring for a 43 year old man who came to the hospital for sudden, severe chest pain. Though a heart attack was ruled out, no attempt was made to rule out an aortic dissection, which, under the circumstances, needed to be considered. The man died of the dissection seven days later. He left behind a mother and four sisters. The verdict was obtained in Monroe County, Michigan, where there have not been many verdicts against doctors in medical malpractice cases. In fact, this may be among the largest malpractice verdicts ever in Monroe County. The defendant doctor, and his insurance company, felt so confident in the doctor’s case that they never offered any money to settle.
